Castration (Gelding)

Equine castration (gelding) is a procedure that involves removing male horses’ testicles while they are under general anesthesia. This ensures their safety during the procedure, with our veterinary team closely monitoring changes in their vitals, helping us to act quickly if needed. Closely following our pre and post surgery instructions is essential to their recovery process.

How do I need to prepare my horse?

Before the procedure, their vaccinations need to be up-to-date including their tetanus vaccine. It’s also important to ensure their comfort in the area where the procedure will happen. The goal is to make the sedation process as seamless as possible, by surrounding your horse with familiar objects. We’ll need a clean, dry open area in which to perform the procedure.
